Your practical checklist
- 01
Is the exact test available?
Read the wording on the prescription. Similar-sounding tests and different imaging views are not interchangeable. Ask the centre to repeat the exact name back to you.
- 02
Who performs and reports it?
Ask which qualified professional performs the examination and who prepares or validates the report. Do not treat a marketing claim as evidence of a credential.
- 03
What preparation applies?
Fasting, water, timing and medicine instructions differ by test. Follow the written instruction for the exact test and never stop medicine unless the treating clinician tells you.
- 04
What is the complete current price?
Ask whether the quoted amount includes collection, imaging, reporting and any additional view or material. Request a receipt and confirm accepted payment methods.
- 05
When will the report be ready?
Ask for the expected time and collection method. If a follow-up appointment depends on the report, allow enough time rather than relying on a vague “quick” promise.
- 06
How are privacy and identity handled?
Check how the centre confirms the patient’s name, labels samples, protects reports and discusses sensitive information.
- 07
Can the patient reach and use the facility?
Consider the map, landmark, stairs or wheelchair access, waiting arrangement, transport and whether a relative may accompany the patient.
- 08
Who explains the next step?
A diagnostic result is not a diagnosis by itself. Confirm how the report reaches the treating clinician and where to seek urgent help if symptoms worsen.
